    SHROPSHIRE GARDENS & CHURCHES OPEN

The trust was founded in 1991 to assist in the country, of all denominations, with repair and maintenance of their buildings. Many are of historic and architectural interest, often in small villages with tiny congregtions, there is no state funding, so that voluntary help is vital.
The Trust raises money to provide grants for churches in need, and The Open Gardens Scheme is one of the most effective ways it does this. In return for a modest charge visitors have the opportunity to see a wide range of interesting gardens, the proceeds being divided equally between the local parish church and trust.

    Walcott Hall Open Day

The gardens and arboretum of this former home of Clive of India are open for charity under the National Garden Scheme

The gardens at Walcot Hall in Shropshire cover over 30 acres, including one of the finest Arboretums in Britain with a rich profusion of tree, shrub and herbaceous plantings. Different trees are ever being added and amongst the notable specimens is a huge Douglas Fir, planted by Lord Powis in 1842 and once one of the largest trees of its kind in Britain.

The Arboretum is open from 12.00pm to 5.00pm every day except Saturdays, from April through to September. The charge is £3.00 per adult and details can be found in the car park at the main entrance to the Hall.

The full gardens at Walcot Hall are open to the public for only two days a year during the Whitsun May Bank holiday weekend, when the display of rhododendrons and azaleas are at their best! For more information please see details within the Events section of this website.

Walcot Hall has some of the most outstanding gardens and views of the whole of Shropshire and beyond. They offer the perfect backdrop for your wedding day or holiday away.

    The Ludlow English Song Weekend

There is nothing quite like the Weekend of English Song. Ludlow is the perfect place for this rich feast of music performed by internationally acclaimed artists. In 2018 we ask the question: how English is English Song? Challenging our own self-definition, we offer a Celtic-flavoured weekend exploring connections between Britain and Ireland. Songs, choral pieces, chamber music, talks, discussions and film – all the ingredients that make up the Ludlow English Song Weekend will be there. New works and young composers will feature again, as will outstanding performers from both sides of the Irish Sea.

Imagine a weekend in beautiful historic Ludlow, immersed in the endlessly fascinating ?and beguiling world of English poetry and song, where songs centuries old and songs freshly composed are performed, investigated, discussed, and keenly listened to. It’s a rare and complete joy.

    Sir John Tomlinson
