    SHROPSHIRE GARDENS & CHURCHES OPEN

The trust was founded in 1991 to assist in the country, of all denominations, with repair and maintenance of their buildings. Many are of historic and architectural interest, often in small villages with tiny congregtions, there is no state funding, so that voluntary help is vital.
The Trust raises money to provide grants for churches in need, and The Open Gardens Scheme is one of the most effective ways it does this. In return for a modest charge visitors have the opportunity to see a wide range of interesting gardens, the proceeds being divided equally between the local parish church and trust.

    Church Stretton Arts Festival

We are pleased to present our 2018 Arts Festival – an event-packed fortnight.

You will find a range of performance arts to suit all tastes, and also the Art Exhibition, which continues to grow, and attracts well over a hundred exhibiting local artists.

    We have:

    Classical music concerts
    Contemporary music concerts
    The ever-popular Tribute evening
    Drama
    Free coffee concerts
    Free organ recitals
    Exhibition 2018
    Workshops

Evening performances start with our opening concert on July 28th and are on most evenings until our closing concert on August 12th.

Free Coffee Concerts are at 10.15am, daily, during the first week (Mon 30th – Sat 4th); organ recitals are in the second week, at noon (Tue 7th, Thu 9th and Sat 11th).

We also have an engaging talk by an author, and there is a tea-time concert, complete with scones, jam and cream afterwards!

Exhibition 2018 opens with an evening reception on the first Monday, and is then open all day, everyday, until the last Saturday. Always popular, with a huge range of art to look at (and buy), covering paintings, photography and a plethora of craft. We are also running two workshops.

Church Stretton provides a fantastic base for a short holiday, while you are enjoying the Festival, with the town’s own interesting range of independent shops and eateries. Not far away, and easily accessible (even by train), are Shrewsbury and Ludlow, with their own unique attractions.

We look forward to seeing you here!

    The Ludlow English Song Weekend

There is nothing quite like the Weekend of English Song. Ludlow is the perfect place for this rich feast of music performed by internationally acclaimed artists. In 2018 we ask the question: how English is English Song? Challenging our own self-definition, we offer a Celtic-flavoured weekend exploring connections between Britain and Ireland. Songs, choral pieces, chamber music, talks, discussions and film – all the ingredients that make up the Ludlow English Song Weekend will be there. New works and young composers will feature again, as will outstanding performers from both sides of the Irish Sea.

Imagine a weekend in beautiful historic Ludlow, immersed in the endlessly fascinating ?and beguiling world of English poetry and song, where songs centuries old and songs freshly composed are performed, investigated, discussed, and keenly listened to. It’s a rare and complete joy.

    Sir John Tomlinson
